Terms of service for Keystone

Keystone is a digital service that gathers your important information — accounts, insurance, passwords, documents and final wishes — in one encrypted place, and gives your trusted contacts access once a death has been verified. The service is provided as a website and web app in Danish and English.

Keystone is operated by a Danish company registered in Denmark.

With Keystone you can store and organise information in encrypted form, invite trusted contacts and control exactly what each of them can see, and export everything you've added, at any time, in open formats.

At its core is the verified release: when a relative or funeral director reports a death and provides documentation, we verify it manually and — after a waiting period — open access for your contacts to exactly what you chose. The release is described in more detail on the How it works page.

We develop Keystone continuously and may add, change or remove individual features. Material changes are announced in advance, cf. section 10.

Keystone is offered in three plans: a free Basic plan, a Premium subscription billed monthly or yearly, and a Lifetime licence paid as a one-time amount. Current prices are shown on the pricing page.

All prices are in Danish kroner and include VAT. Payment is made by card via our payment partner. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel.

Trusted contacts never pay. They can create a free account and access what you share with them — including after a release.

As a consumer you have a 14-day right of withdrawal under the Danish Consumer Contracts Act when you buy a subscription or a licence.

Keystone is a digital service you will typically use straight away. If you ask us to provide the service immediately, you consent to delivery beginning before the withdrawal period ends. If you withdraw within the 14 days while the service is still being provided, we refund the amount corresponding to the remaining, unused part of the period.

To withdraw, simply write to us. You may use the statutory standard withdrawal form, but an ordinary message is enough.

"Lifetime" means the operating lifetime of the Keystone service — for as long as the service is offered — and not your own lifetime. We choose the word because it describes what you get: one payment, all Premium features, and no recurring charges, for as long as Keystone operates.

A lifetime licence does not give you a guarantee of any particular number of years of operation, and by its nature it cannot. In return, we promise something we can keep, should the service ever shut down:

• We give written notice of closure at least 6 months in advance — by email and in the app.
• Throughout the notice period, every user, on every plan, can export everything for free in open formats.
• The offline decryptor in your export keeps working independently of Keystone, so your sealed items can be opened with your recovery code — even after the service has closed.

Should we ever have to shut Keystone down, three binding commitments apply:

• Notice: at least 6 months' written notice before the service stops. Your Keystone works fully throughout the period.
• Export: free, full export in open formats for every user throughout the notice period.
• Access: the offline decryptor included in your export keeps working without Keystone's servers, so your sealed items can be opened with your recovery code.

These commitments are part of the agreement and cannot be weakened retroactively for existing lifetime purchases, cf. section 10.

A subscription can be cancelled at any time and runs until the end of the period you have already paid for. There is no automatic renewal after cancellation.

If you use the free plan, you can delete your account at any time. Deleting your account and data follows the controls you find in the app and our privacy policy.

A lifetime licence is a one-time purchase. You can always delete your account, but a one-time amount is not refunded beyond what the right of withdrawal in section 4 provides.

Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and the most sensitive items are sealed in your browser before they are sent — those Keystone cannot read. The full model is described on the Security page.

We provide Keystone with care and work to keep the service available and secure. We cannot, however, guarantee uninterrupted operation, and we are not liable for indirect losses — such as loss of operations, lost profit or consequential damages — arising in connection with the use of the service.

Nothing in these terms limits the rights you have as a consumer under mandatory Danish law.

We may change these terms, for example as the service or the law evolves. Material changes are announced with reasonable notice by email or in the app, and continued use after the change counts as acceptance.

The wind-down commitments in sections 5 and 6 cannot be weakened retroactively for existing lifetime purchases. If you have bought lifetime, the notice, export and access commitments in force at the time of purchase apply, regardless of later changes.

The agreement is governed by Danish law. If you are unhappy, we would much rather hear about it first — write to us and we'll find a solution.
